I decided not to buy the fun little toy...that Solstice I posted about. I'm just too practical to buy something so impractical...and give up some of the other things I might want over the next couple of years. Maybe someday.
Anyway, I still owe myself a birthday present. What I've decided is I want a nice cookware set. I've been doing some research and I think I've narrowed it down to All-Clad or Scanpan...unless someone out there has something else they really love and can recommend? Or I'm considering buying the All-Clad (I'm debating on the stainless or MC2 sets) base set, and then get a Scanpan or two (for the non-stick)...I just can't decided. Help!! If you have nice cookware, what do you have and what do you love about it?

Danielle, I would be lost without my Le Creuset French oven. It is cast iron so it actually browns food, but it is also coated with enamel which makes for easier cleaning. I have the 5 1/2 quart model (in the bright orange color!) , and it is fantastic for stews and braised dishes. They aren't cheap, but they last forever.
We have All Clad and I like it alot. We have the shiny stainless exterior and it cleans up pretty well. Williams Sonoma has a metal cleaner from Germany, I think it's called Wustof, that works well on the interior. But I'd much rather clean non-stick.
You'll get your sports car some day. It's good to be practical when you're still in grad school. Hope you had a great birthday!
I don't know a lot about cookware, but I love my Rachel Ray.. ha!
I have several pieces of stainless steel All-Clad. I also own some non-stick of a few different brands and the All-Clad stainless is my favourite by far.
If you are looking to buy a full set then check out Williams Sonoma as sometimes they have some good deals and you get a free bonus piece included. To clean I use this stuff that you can get at Walmart that is a powder called Barkeepers Friend (http://www.barkeepersfriend.com/). Works great to get it clean!
If you live close to a Pottery Barn outlet you may be able to pick up "seconds" on a good discount.
